Studies have shown that low to no carb diets actually help in weight losing, in fact, it is said to be even more effective than low fat diets. But, do you know that there are quite some negative effects that results from this kind of diets?
So will cutting carbs help me lose weight? First you have to understand that not all carbs are created the same. They have all been banded together but some carbs are necessary for a healthy and fulfilled lifestyle. So how do you tell a good carb from a bad one? Well. lets go back to basics. There are two basic types of carbohydrates: Firstly the Sugars, which are known as a simple carbohydrate. Secondly the Starches, which are known as complex carbohydrates.
The major difference between these carbohydrates is the time taken by your body to digest them. The simple carbohydrate is digested quickly where as the complex carbohydrate takes longer to be digested.
Most simple carbohydrates are found in processed foods like pizza, chocolate, and cakes — that is, foods that contain added sugars. Eating apples, grapes, raisings, and bananas cannont get you the same results. These are much healthier than simple carbs due to the fact that they contain vitamins and nutrients needed by the body.
When you go on low to no carb diets, it actually means that you stop taking in carbohydrates, it’s good since you won’t get fat, but as the matter of fact, each individual should have at least 45% – 65% of carbohydrate which varies independently.
A Metabolic Disorder called ‘Ketosis’ occurs when your body over a period of time becomes malnourished of carbohydrates. If your body is too weak to handle a low-to-no carbohydrate diet, consequences such as constant fatigue, lack of energy and insomnia may result. Nevertheless, you can remedy the situation by eating foods high in carbohydrates, at which point you will gain back all the weight you lost.
Can you imagine this cycle as you read? Yes, you will initially lose weight, but then you will have to compensate that with low energy level, and then when you try to recover, the weight comes back. Maybe you will think that it’s just a small case but if you maintain these low to no carb diets, it will actually cause parts of your body to deteriorate in long term, giving you a miserable life in the end.
So, will low to no carb diets help me? Reducing carbohydrates from your diet will enable you to lose weight only if you cut the right kind of carbohydrate and if you make other diet and lifestyle changes at the same time.
